Yesterday, I managed to obtain an interesting cross-section of songs to add to my collection. They ranged from Tori Amos to Snow Patrol with some Michelle Branch and Oasis also in the mix. I like both Tori and Snow Patrol, but did not get their most recent releases so I was happy to get these songs that had been out for a while. This is not unusual for me at all. I tend to linger when it comes to new music purchases. If I remember correctly, the last album that I purchased immediately upon release was Magic by Bruce Springsteen. I am not sure if I would call myself a completist, but I do own at least six of his discs so I guessed that I would like at least half of the songs on it. That was my hope when I bought it. Overall, I have to say that it is not his best effort, but I am not angry about buying it and know that I listen to it from time to time. In fact, at this moment it is in my car along with Girlfriend by Matthew Sweet, The Delays' Faded Seaside Glamour and the debut album Finally Woken by Jem. I try to rotate through my music collection as often as I can. I have not made the jump to an iPod and any other form of mp3 player for my car, but I like to keep a small handful of music discs inside my car at all times.
Yesterday, I read an article talking about annoying music fans or ones that tend to frighten other people who like the same music. Not too surprisingly followers of Tori Amos were mentioned quite often. Now I freely admit that I like some of her music and have seen her in concert twice, but by no means am I a rabid fan. I have never spoken with her, nor have I had my photo taken with her. I can see why some people would desire either of those things, but that is not something that I seek out when I go to a concert. Oh, I like the concept of a live performance, but I am not sure what else I would have to say to the singer beyond thanking him or her for what they do.
The connection between the artist and someone who appreciates the art that is created is an odd one. Most artists I think want to reach out to people, but at the same time many of these people have problems relating to others and thus choose to express themselves in a means less common and or everyday. Maybe one could call a song a conversation, but I see it as something else. A conversation is less open to interpretation and there is more of a give and take between the participants. A singer and a listener are not having the same kind of bond. Perhaps I am stating the obvious, but I suspect the rabid fans seem to misunderstand this relationship.

Almost
seven hours of solid sleep does wonders for my overall mood. That is not to say that I did not feel like
myself before I went to sleep, but I wish that that would happen more often
than it does.

My goals for the month are to keep my exercise regimen steady and to increase my reading. When I look at all of the books that I read two years ago, I wonder when I had the time and or where did it go now. I also want to do more photography and start sketching again.
I like to think that music is a daily part of my life so I was more than a little surprised to see that according to iTunes, I have not listened to any music on my computer since March 20. As to why and or how that happened I do not know. Yes, I listened to music on my car during that same time frame, but I find it odd that no music was heard during my time on the computer for almost a week. So today I not only listened to music on my computer, but also deleted some tracks that have not been played since early last year. One might call it spring cleaning of a sort.
