As of three this morning, rain continues to fall outside melting the snow that would have been pretty to see on Christmas morning. Perhaps that will change in five hours when I leave to go home.

Korean director Ki-Duk Kim continues to impress me. Before I left for work last night, I watched and enjoyed his twelfth film Bow. For me there were a few familiar motifs that I have seen in other films that he has made in the past. For example, the story took place on an isolated boat surrounded by water with no land in sight. People would come and go to this solitary location, but we the viewers were not shown anything besides the boat. The boat was the center of the world if not the word itself in the movie. This use of isolation is quite common in his work. A second previously seen motif is a conflict between an older generation and a younger one. Finally, there is an element of the supernatural in the film that is either lost on a Western audience or draws them in even more than the rest of the story.

In my comic book database, I reached six thousand records. I suspect that this number might frighten some and maybe draw snorts of amusement from others, but I thought that it was worth noting. There was no way that I could have possibly known that twenty six years ago, I would amass that many books. At one time I had a small stack that I could hold in my hands and read over and over. Now it would take me weeks to read my entire collection.
When I woke today, this was the first time in three days where neither my nose nor my throat was sore whenever I breathed and or spoke and for that I was grateful. Looking back, I think that I might have felt the first tinge of a cold on Monday after first being exposed to the virus on Sunday by multiple people. A mere three hours of sleep on that say had lowered my immune system and being around at least two people who were sick was more than I could handle. Then Wednesday spending the bulk of the day driving to and from Chicago was enough to bring me to my knees. I had lost and was trying to get as much sleep and fluid as possible.

I watched my fourth Ki-duk Kim film this morning. Bad Guy was not nearly as graphic as The Isle, nor was it as lyrical as Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring, but I still enjoyed it. Neither of the two main characters were as sympathetic as other leading characters in his movies, but they were not wholly evil either. I wish that I could best describe what appeals to me the most about this Korean director. Perhaps it has to do with his frequent use of anti-heroes.

A box containing fifty issues of Captain Atom was delivered to my front door today. I only had a chance to glance at the covers before I left but they will fill some holes in my collection, which is what I wanted from the auction. Plus I could not pas up the price. Fifty issues including shipping cost me eleven dollars.

Sometimes I focus on just one musical artist in my collection and today I chose The Shins. Yes, they only have three full albums, but there was still enough music to accompany my daily web surfing.
