Somehow I stumbled across some buzz about the final episode of this season of Doctor Who and I was more than a little excited by what I had read. There was talk of regeneration. There was talk of David leaving the program. There was talk of Donna being a Timelord. Sadly those were merely rumors and the reality was less satisfying than the wild ideas being proposed. I will admit that the episode Turn Left that preceded the season finale was fun, but the two part finale itself left me feeling somewhat letdown. Yes, it was fun to see the various characters from the revived version of the series come together, but at the same time, I was disappointed by the sad and quick reunion of Rose and The Doctor. As for the final treatment of Donna, well at least she is still alive and healthy.
A full week back at work did its best to anger me, but in the end I walked away feeling calm. Oh, I still would have no hesitation in quitting, but I know that for the moment I have to endure the idiocy of the place. What I need to do when I am there is maintain my level of indifference without coming across as too sarcastic. Starting a new vacation countdown also aids in dealing with the everyday nonsense of work and the frustration of what it does to me.
On the home front, I am trying not to fall into a dull routine and have gladly limited my television viewing. While I was away, my wife had recorded a bulk of Anthony Bourdain episodes for me, but once those have been watched, all that will be left for me is the season finale of Doctor Who and the slow build of Bleach. I have yet to see the first installment of the three part episode that hints at a regeneration for The Doctor, but I am more than a little eager to see it. David Tennant has done a great job in the part and seeing him leave after three quick seasons would be sad. Then there are the rumors that Tom Baker wants to return to the series in some capacity, be it as The Doctor or even better as The Master.
I have yet to spend any time in the pool where I live, but I have been exercising regularly and finding time to read. Both of those things make me happy and when swimming get added to the mix, I suspect that I will be even happier.
Before I left for work last night, I had just enough time to watch the latest recorded episode of Doctor Who, The Doctor's Daughter, that had aired on the Sci-Fi Channel. The title alone got me excited. They were going to introduce someone related to The Doctor. This was a first. Yes, the show began with him having a granddaughter, but over the years they slowly took away the fact that there were many Timelords. At one time there was The Master, The Rani and all of the other Timelords back on Gallifrey. Then the creators of the show killed everyone off except The Doctor, making him the sole survivor from a dead planet or giving him a Superman motif so to speak.
Sadly my expectations were set a little too high and the introduction of a daughter came across as somewhat forced and awkward. Her return is inevitable, but beyond the sex appeal of seeing the young actress again, I am not sure what else the character can bring to the program. What I did like was the behind the scenes knowledge that the actress in real life is the daughter of Peter Davison, who was the actor who played the Fifth Doctor.

Seeing blue sky this morning after work for the first time in days was a little odd. Someone at work told me that seven inches of rain had fell over the past four days and I believe it.
On a much lighter note from the other day, I have to say that I am slowly warming up to the new companion on Doctor Who. Both Rose and Martha were strong characters that complimented David Tennant's Timelord quite nicely. Donna is more of a humorous approach and that takes some adjustment on my part. I can understand that the writers wanted to avoid another possible romantic entanglement, so they needed to set some distance between The Doctor and his latest companion, but why not go with a male companion then?
I never had that strong of feelings be they positive or negative about Peter Davison being The Doctor. Yes, he was not Tom Baker, but would I have wanted another Tom Baker? I think that the answer is a definite no. Actually I think that I was more intrigued by his new companion Tegan than The Doctor himself. She was loud, opinionated and did not like to listen to what The Doctor had to say. They say that conflict makes for good drama so that probably explains why she lasted as a companion as long as she did. Plus there was her Australian accent to keep my attention.
One of the best things about the Castrovalva DVD were the interviews with Peter on what he thought of following Tom and his first efforts of being The Doctor. The episode itself was solid enough, but not a personal favorite of mine.

On the comic book front, I reached the second tier books of my monthly reading. Ron Marz continues to keep my interest with his work on Witchblade, while Johns is slowly losing me on Justice Society of America. Some of this lack of interest might have to do with my shift from team books to individuals with a small supporting cast. Maybe if the Superman from the Kingdom Come universe were in a book of his own, I would be more intrigued by what Johns has to say but that is not the case so Dani and her growth as a character wins this round.
